A British warship has seized a s240million cocaine shipment - the biggest haul in Royal Navy history.
HMS Iron Duke's crew sank the 138ft drug boat with bursts of cannon fire after confiscating its deadly cargo and arresting the gang of smugglers.
The high-seas drama happened off the coast of South America last week after US Coastguard agents tipped off the Portsmouth based vessel while it was on patrol. The Iron Duke - currently on North Atlantic disaster relief duties for the hurricane season - eventually tracked down the drug runners after a dramatic chase lasting several days.
A Lynx helicopter carrying elite Royal Marine snipers was dispatched to open fire as the warship closed in on the illegal fishing vessel MV Cristal - which was carrying 212 bails of cocaine.
The smugglers surrendered and a heavily-armed US Coastguard boarding team attached to the Iron Duke - a Type 23 Frigate - stormed the vessel and arrested the South American crew.

The INS Mumbai (D62) is the third of the Delhi-class guided-missile destroyers in active-service with the Indian Navy.
Mumbai was built at Mazagon Dock Limited in her namesake city Mumbai, launched in 1995, and commissioned in 2001.

INS Ranvir (D54) is the fourth of the five Rajput class destroyers built for the Indian Navy. Ranvir was commissioned on 28 October 1986.

USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) is an Amphibious Assault Ship, and the third United States Navy ship of that name. It was named in honor of John Paul Jones' famous frigate, which he had named the French language equivalent of "father or older man Richard," in honor of Benjamin Franklin, the U.S. Ambassador to France at the time.
The name Bonhomme Richard is derived from the pen name of Benjamin Franklin, the author of Poor Richard's Almanac.
Bonhomme Richard ("Revolutionary Gator") is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship currently homeported in San Diego, California. The contract to build her was awarded to Ingalls Shipbuilding on 11 December 1992, and her keel was laid down on 18 April 1995.
She was launched on 14 March 1997, delivered to the Navy on 12 May 1998, and commissioned on 15 August 1998.
Bonhomme Richard played two significant roles in Operation Iraqi Freedom. First, it offloaded more than 1,000 Marines and gear from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines into Kuwait.
Then after delivering her attack and transport helicopters, troops, and vehicles she took up position just miles off the coast of Kuwait and became one of two Harrier Carriers along with USS Bataan (LHD-5) in the Persian Gulf—launching AV-8B Harrier strike aircraft into Iraq.
Pilots from Marine Attack Squadrons 211 and 311, embarked aboard Bonhomme Richard, expended more than 175,000 pounds (79,000 kg) of ordnance, providing close air support to the Marines on the ground and during predetermined strikes in Iraq.
During Operation Iraqi Freedom the Bonhomme Richard launched more than 800 sorties, including 547 combat launches.

The de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou (known in the U.S. military as CV-2 and C-7 Caribou) was a Canadian-designed and produced specialized cargo aircraft with short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability.
The Caribou was first flown in 1958 and although mainly retired from military operations, is still in use in small numbers as a rugged "bush" aircraft.
In current service, the Royal Australian Air Force still operates 13 Caribous, which are due to be retired at the end of 2009

Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter.

He was best-known for his roles as romantic leading men in the films Dirty Dancing and Ghost and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was named by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.

Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2008. He continued acting until, in 2009, he became too ill to do so. Later the same year he died from the disease.

His last role was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. Owing to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series, and on June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been cancelled.

In an interview with Barbara Walters which aired in January 2009, Swayze admitted that he had a "tiny little mass" in his liver. On January 9, 2009, Swayze was hospitalized with pneumonia. The pneumonia was said to be a complication of chemotherapy treatments for Swayze's cancer.

On January 16, he was released from the hospital to rest at home with his wife. On April 19, 2009, doctors informed Swayze that the cancer had again metastasized to his liver. Swayze stated that his chain smoking probably "had something to do with" the development of his disease. Photos taken of a gaunt Swayze in the months before his death showed him continuing to smoke.

Swayze died "with family at his side" on September 14, 2009, at age 57, twenty months after being diagnosed. Swayze's publicist, Annett Wolf, confirmed to CNN that he had died of pancreatic cancer.

The Aeronautica Militare is the air force of the Republic of Italy (Repubblica Italiana).

The AMX International AMX "Ghibli" is a ground-attack aircraft for battlefield interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance missions. It is built by the AMX International Italian-Brazilian joint venture, and is designated the A-1 in the Brazilian Air Force.

The AMX is capable of operating at high subsonic speed and low altitude, by day or night, and if necessary, from bases with poorly equipped or damaged runways. Low IR signature and reduced radar equivalent cross-section help prevent detection, while low vulnerability of structure and systems aid survivability. Integrated ECM, air-to-air missiles and nose-mounted guns provide self-defence capabilities.

The Dassault Mirage F1 is a French single-seat air-superiority fighter and attack aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation as a successor of the Mirage III family.
The Mirage F1 entered service in the French Air Force in the early seventies. Powered by a single SNECMA Atar turbojet providing about 7 tonnes of thrust, the F1 has been used as a light multipurpose fighter and has been exported to about a dozen nations.
More than 700 F1s have been produced.
Among the second generation European supersonic fighter (ie, among those built in the sixties and early seventies) the F1 was the most successful, most significantly because almost all of its users have used it in wars and regional conflicts.
