La classe Mistral est une classe de deux navires d'assaut amphibie, aussi connu comme un porte-hélicoptères de la Marine nationale française. Dénommé «projection et de commandement navires» (Bâtiments de projection et de commandement ou BPC), un navire de la classe Mistral est capable de transporter et de déployer 16 hélicoptères Tigre ou NH90, quatre barges de débarquement, jusqu'à 70 véhicules dont 13 chars Leclerc, ou a 40-strong bataillon de chars Leclerc, et 450 soldats. Les navires sont tous deux équipés d'une carte de 69 lits, et sont capables de servir dans le cadre d'une Force de réaction de l'OTAN, ou avec les Nations Unies ou européennes de maintien de la paix de l'Union des forces.
Deux navires de la classe sont en service dans la Marine française: Mistral et Tonnerre. Les travaux sur un troisième navire a été lancé en avril 2009 et un quatrième navire mai également être construit.
The Mistral class is a class of two amphibious assault ships, also known as a helicopter carrier, of the French Navy. Referred to as "projection and command ships" (bâtiments de projection et de commandement or BPC), a Mistral class ship is capable of transporting and deploying 16 NH90 or Tigre helicopters, four landing barges, up to 70 vehicles including 13 Leclerc tanks, or a 40-strong Leclerc tank battalion, and 450 soldiers.
The ships are both equipped with a 69-bed hospital, and are capable of serving as part of a NATO Response Force, or with United Nations or European Union peace-keeping forces.
Two ships of the class are in service in the French Navy: Mistral and Tonnerre. The work on a third vessel was launched in April 2009 and a fourth ship may also be built.
